IS SCULPTRA SAFE?

Sculptra is considered safe when administered by qualified and experienced healthcare professionals in a controlled and sterile environment.

Sculptra has received FDA approval for the correction of facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, as well as for the restoration of facial volume. Safety largely depends on the skill and expertise of the practitioner administering the treatment. Ensure that you choose a licensed and experienced healthcare professional for your Sculptra injections. While side effects are generally mild and temporary, they can include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, or lumps at the injection site. These effects usually resolve on their own within a few days to a few weeks. Long term side effects can include the risk of nodule formation. this is not a common occurance and can be avoided by following you post care and going to an experienced health care provider. Allergic reactions to Sculptra are rare but possible. It's essential to inform your healthcare provider of any allergies you may have. As with any injectable procedure, there is a minimal risk of infection. It's crucial to follow post-treatment care instructions provided by your healthcare professional.

HOW MANY VIALS OF SCULPTRA WILL I NEED?

However, a good rule of thumb for facial rejuvenation is that you will need 1 vial of Sculptra for every decade of life. 2 vials are typically administered every 4-6 weeks until we complete your recommended treatment

WHAT IS THE SCULPTRA PROCEDURE LIKE?

On the day of the procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned and prepped. After that a topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize any discomfort during the injections. Sculptra is then administered via a fine needle or cannula into the targeted areas of the face. The number and location of injections depend on the treatment plan and the specific areas being addressed. After the injections, your provider will use a massaging technique to evenly distribute the Sculptra beneath the skin. This helps to achieve a smooth and natural-looking result.

Massage Technique: After the treatment we will use a massage technique to distribute the Sculptra evenly beneath the skin. While this step is important for achieving optimal results, it can cause a temporary sensation of pressure.

CAN SCULPTRA BE USED IN OTHER AREAS BESIDES THE FACE?

Sculptra has received FDA approval for the correction of facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds, as well as for the restoration of facial volume. However, we often use it off label to correct other areas needing improvement in skin texture and volume such as: Arms, neck, chest, abdomen, thighs, and knees.

CAN SCULPTRA TREAT WRINKLES AND FINE LINES?

Yes, Sculptra is commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines, particularly those that result from volume loss in the face. It's an effective option for addressing facial aging and can provide natural-looking results. Sculptra works by stimulating the production of collagen, a key protein that contributes to skin elasticity and fullness.

PRE AND POST CARE

Pre:

  1. Take Arnika supplements starting 5 days prior to the procedure to help prevent or reduce bruising.
  2. Avoid over the counter pain relivers/NSAIDS (aspirin/ibuprofen/aleve), fish oil, omega 3’s, St. John’s Wort, ginkgo biloba, and Vit E for 1 week prior to procedure.
  3. Avoid alcohol for a few days prior to procedure. *including red wine
  4. Start supplementing with collagen peptide powder 1 week prior (Nutrafol or Vital proteins) and continue to supplement for 6 weeks after.
  5. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your physician about medications that may minimize a recurrence.
  6. Sanitize your phone prior to your appointment with a lysol wipe. Avoid putting it to your face and try to talk on speaker phone as much as you can the day of.

Post:

  1. Immediately after the treatment, the most common reported side effects are temporary redness, and swelling at the injection sites. These effects typically resolve within three days. If the inconvenience continues beyond three days -or- if other reactions occur such as an increase in tenderness/pain, please contact us. 
  2. You may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness/discomfort. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen for a few days. 
  3. Bruising is a fairly common side effect as well. Continue taking your arnica supplements for 1-2 weeks after treatment to help reduce and resolve bruising more quickly.
  4. The volume you see immediately after treatment will disappear after about 3 days and over the course of the next 4-8 weeks your body will begin building new collagen.
  5. Massage the treated areas 3 times a day, for 3 minutes each time, for 3 days after treatment. (!!!This is important as it helps reduce the risk of nodule formation!!!)
  6. No makeup on your face for the rest of the after the procedure. You can wear makeup the following day. 
  7. It is recommended to sleep on a slight incline to reduce the possibility of swelling.
  8. Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases your heart rate for 24 hours
  9. Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling for the first few days after your treatment.
